I’ve written, pretty openly about depression and how it has effected my life. Back in June, I did a post I called If Your Happy and You Know It. https://pennylanewrites.com/2017/06/14/if-youre-happy-and-you-know-it/
This post has received more views than anything else I’ve ever written. I think this really speaks to the fact that Depression is more wide spread than we realize. There needs to be more awareness so that there is not such a stigma attached to it.
500 Followers? Omg, omg, omg, omg, omg, omg!
I can hardly believe it! I remember quite clearly reaching 100 followers and just being thrilled! But 500? Wow! I am seriously overwhelmed! To think that there are that many humans out there that really give a rip about anything that I have to say is just mind blowing!
The sense of Community I have found here is such a blessing in my life! I’ve made some friends that I look forward to seeing every time I log in. The kindness and support that I’ve receive from my fellow bloggers has been just incredible.
Thank you, to every single one of you! You inspire and encourage me every day! You are truly a positive influence in my life and an inspiration to me.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you, thank you, thank you! ❤ ❤ ❤
I’m somewhat of a “prepper”. Most of you will understand what I mean by that. For those of you that don’t, a prepper is someone who prepares for a disaster.
I don’t go to extremes, but I see nothing wrong with being a good Girl Scout or Boy Scout and preparing yourself for an emergency.
I’ve mentioned this to people in the past and they scoff. I don’t understand this. What’s wrong with having a flashlight and batteries on hand or an extra can of beans and some water?
People that refuse to have even just the bare essentials in preparation of an emergency just baffle me.
I know there are people that go to extreme. I like to think I fall in the middle somewhere.
What’s your take on this? Are you a “Prepper”?
I really really hate going to the grocery store. The larger the store, in general, the less expensive the groceries are. But do we have to give up common pleasantries in order to save a buck? I usually frequent a “Mega” store for my once a week grocery trips. I’m a thrifty girl. But I’ve about decided that saving a buck is not always worth the hassle.
Below are some of my pet peeves about the “Mega” stores.
I want to thank Robin at Robin’s Nest https://therobinsnest2017.com/ for tagging me for this post. Here is Robin’s post: https://therobinsnest2017.com/2017/07/07/desert-island-discs-blog-tag/
I’m going to change things up a bit though. Robin is a sweetheart to nominate me for this but I’m afraid that my choice in albums would be quite Old School. I have a feeling that I am a year or two older than Robin is! 🙂
It has been a long time since I bought an album. In fact, when I moved this last time, I never even bothered unpacking my CDs or my stereo. The stereo is out in the garage and the CDs are still in a cardboard box in the spare room.
Most of the time I listen to Internet Radio; either Pandora or Accu Radio. I bounce around in what I listen to a great deal. I listen to everything from Country, to Lite Rock, to Smooth Jazz, to Oldies.
I get tired of the same old thing and although I do have favorites, I crave hearing new music.
Here are the Robin’s rules:
If you are cast away on a desert island:
- You can bring 5 albums – what are they?
- You can bring one book – which is it? You are provided with a Bible/ other religious text if you want it, as well as the Complete Works of Shakespeare. No series!
- You can have one luxury item (it has to be inanimate and can’t help you escape the island) – what is it?
So, in light of my eclectic tastes and listening habits, these are the rules I have come up with:
- Name 5 songs you love and why they are so special to you.
- What is/are the book, writings or story that you read as a child and loved that would surprise some people?
- What is the one luxury item you have in your life now that you feel you couldn’t do without?

I recently received the great honor of doing a Guest Post on https://mohamadkarbi.com/ Mohamad’s blog. He has a fascinating blog about travel, writing tips and a variety of other subjects.
You can see the piece I wrote here:
Travel Oregon and See the U.S!
To my Friends and Family in Oregon: Yes, I know I left a LOT out! There is only so much I could cover in this post. Perhaps I will do a more in-depth post on some spots in particular in the future.
To my Friends and Family in Texas: No fear, I’m not going anywhere. Texas is my home now and I’m glad to be here. But they say “write what you know” and I know the state of Oregon a lot better than I know the state of Texas.
To my Friends on WordPress: I hope I did not deceive or confuse you with this piece. I didn’t mean to. I was born in Oregon, although I traveled all over the country, I spent many years there. I now reside in Fort Worth, Texas.
